Josh Davies wins a Warwick SEM Faculty Award for teaching
Josh Davies has won a postgraduate SEM Faculty Award at the Warwick Award for Teaching Excellence (WATE) 2023.
Josh Davies has won a postgraduate SEM Faculty Award at the Warwick Award for Teaching Excellence (WATE) 2023.
Josh said: “Much of my teaching is based in the teaching laboratories, where I have had the pleasure of teaching Year 1-3 UG students and several PGT courses. I have designed and delivered a series of workshops for the third-year Polymer and Colloid Science module and created a series of posters to communicate theory, practical skills, and assessment for use in UG labs. My teaching focuses on an enquiry-based approach to learning and creating an immersive style of delivery founded on clear communication of expectations, fostering a sense of the students being co-creators in their learning, which continuously receives positive feedback from students and teaching observations.”
Prof. dr. ir. Stefan Bon says: “This is fantastic. It is great to see that Josh’s enthusiasm for teaching has been recognised and awarded by the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Medicine. I am very happy that the team at BonLab helps out and contributes to the teaching and training of students at Warwick University, especially in polymer and colloid science and engineering. Josh did an excellent job this academic year.”
Emily Brogden wins best graduate research seminar talk at IPCG 2023
Emily Brodgen has been awarded “best talk” at the Graduate Research Seminar (GRS) of the International Polymer Colloids Group (IPCG) conference held at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
Emily Brodgen has been awarded “best talk” at the Graduate Research Seminar (GRS) of the International Polymer Colloids Group (IPCG) conference held at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
Emily said: “I really enjoyed the GRS preceeding the IPCG2023 meeting. It was great meeting all the participants and hearing their interesting research.”
Emily was given the opportunity to present her work at the main IPCG conference where she talked about hard-soft polymer colloid mixtures for waterborne linerless pressure sensitive adhesives.
Prof. dr. ir. Stefan Bon said: “ I am tremendously proud of Emily and I am delighted that her talents, commitment, and hard work have been recognised and awarded by the world top in our field of polymer colloids. It is a fantastic boost for the entire team at BonLab.”
We would like to thank the Oil & Colour Chemists’ Association (OCCA) for sponsoring Emily’s trip by awarding her a Surfex travel bursary.
Join us as a PhD student to unravel the mechanisms of sustainable polymerization reactions
We are now looking for a PhD researcher to join us in the Autumn of 2023 and develop together with an industrial partner and us an exciting 4-years joint research program in the area of environmentally sustainable polymers.
We are now looking for a PhD researcher to join us in the Autumn of 2023 and develop together with an industrial partner and us an exciting 4-years joint research program in the area of environmentally sustainable polymers.
This specific PhD project will provide a synergistic step-change in the development and understanding of the polymerization mechanisms and kinetics of sustainable green monomers, which can be polymerised by condensation type of reactions. Unraveling the chemical reactions and associated kinetics will allow us to predict the molar mass and chemical composition distributions. This understanding will then be applied to add complexity to polymer chain architecture. The physical and mechanical characteristics of formulations and products made using these sustainable polymers will also be investigated.
Please contact prof. dr. ir. Stefan Bon directly if you are interested by email (s.bon@warwick.ac.uk), with your CV, academic transcript and motivation letter.
This studentship covers a 4 year stipend and payment of home fees. International students can apply but have to have financial means to cover the difference in fees.
