Birmingham Café Scientifique

  • Pure Bar 30 Waterloo Street Birmingham, B2 5TJ United Kingdom (map)

For October’s talk we turn to Supracolloidal Chemical Engineering with Professor Stefan Bon from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Warwick!

In this talk we will discuss why it is important to understand the synthesis and behaviour of colloidal particles and how this can lead to innovations in advanced materials. We will talk about the importance of polymer latex particles in the manufacturing of coatings, adhesives, gloves and condoms. We will elucidate on hydrogels and how these can contribute to the formulation of personal care and food products. Finally, we will highlight some historic discoveries and new challenges in colloid science and why it matters.

Due to our popularity Café Scientifique has now moved to a larger venue, Pure Bar at 30 Waterloo Street, B2 5TJ. Located downstairs, the room has seating for 50 and capacity for up to 70 people. Food and drink can be ordered from the dedicated bar. The room can only be accessed from the main bar stairs.

Café Scientifique is a programme of informal science talks with time for Q&A and debate built in. With no prior knowledge needed, the events are a chance to socialise, relax and enjoy learning about contemporary research.

Room opens at 6pm for 7pm start and finishes at 9pm.

This event is FREE.
